Pinta Acoustic PHONSTOP Ceiling Tiles Installed In Renovated Veterans Memorial Building
MINNEAPOLIS — PHONSTOP™ Ceiling Tiles from pinta acoustic were installed throughout the renovated Veterans Memorial Building in downtown Danville, Calif. The acoustical control is important in the building, which serves as a gathering place for veterans, seniors and community groups, and a rental space for private events. PHONSTOP tiles are made from 100 percent recycled glass, and the building is in the process of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
The historic Veterans Memorial Building, constructed in 1925, underwent a multimillion dollar renovation and doubled in size to almost 13,000 square feet. The building reopened in April 2012, with PHONSTOP Ceiling Tiles installed in the new and old portions of the facility.
"We always work with acoustical engineers on large projects such as this one, and they recommended the pinta product," says Philip Rossetti, Architectural Resources Group. "The building’s community hall can be divided into several smaller spaces, so it’s very important that the acoustics control sound transmission. PHONSTOP was a good choice and looks handsome in the building."
PHONSTOP Ceiling Tiles have exceptional acoustical properties (NRC 0.70—0.90), and are made from recycled glass, sintered to form rigid, lightweight and porous sound absorbers.
Tiles are available in two sizes — 24 inches by 24 inches by 2 inches (610 by 610 by 51 mm), and 24 inches by 48 inches by 2 inches (610 by 1,219 by 51 mm) — and two applications — directly adhered to walls or placed in a ceiling grid system. Tiles can be custom-colored with an acoustical coating in the field, applied by a certified applicator. With the application of PHONSTOP plaster, a seamless monolithic appearance can be created.
PHONSTOP tiles have beveled edges on one side and square edges on the reverse side. Tiles are Class 1 fire rated.
The Veterans Memorial Building project used tiles directly adhered to the ceiling and painted white, with three coats of waterborne non-bridging paint in the field.
