Electric Motors and Energy Efficiency
Regal Beloit Corporation, a manufacturer of electric motors, electrical motion controls, power generation and power transmission components, announced its ECM Made Easy campaign to educate wholesalers, contractors and homeowners about the benefits of upgrading to Regal’s Genteq Evergreen line of motors.
Electronically commutated motor (ECM) technology is up to 25 percent more efficient than a standard permanent split capacitor (PSC) motor. The Evergreen line of motors includes both outdoor condenser and indoor furnace motors and can be used not only in applications designed for ECMs but also as an upgrade to a PSC motor application. Many benefits can be achieved when upgrading a PSC application with Genteq Evergreen IM motors, including comfort, noise reduction and energy savings.
“EC motors have been in use for more than 20 years, and Genteq ECMs are the leading brand found in OEM HVAC systems today,” said Birch Taylor, Distribution Business Leader, Regal. “We want to encourage broader adoption of these highly efficient and proven motors that can improve the operations of our customers.”
A comfortable, allergy-free home is a cost-effective reality with ECM technology. Because ECMs use less energy, air can be continuously circulated through indoor air quality filters which, in turn, reduce allergens and balance temperature fluctuations. Evergreen motors also operate quieter than PSC motors throughout the entire HVAC cycle.
Regulations in 2019 on new HVAC systems will require more efficient solutions for indoor furnace blowers. EC motors will be used on most new systems to meet these regulations. However, people won’t have to wait to adopt ECM technology or buy a new system. Evergreen IMs and OMs are designed for the replacement of PSC standard motors. It takes only two IMs and one OM to replace up to 32 standard PSC motors. This upgrade to ECM technology is easy, and the motors are readily available.
