Danfoss Extends Range Of Performer PSH Heat Pump Scroll Compressor
BALTIMORE — Danfoss, a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration and motion systems, recently extended the range of its Performer® PSH heat pump scroll compressor, adding six smaller capacity models to the product offering.
As a result, Performer PSH heat pump scroll compressors now offer a heating capacity range of 19 to 80 kW (at evap. 19.4°F /cond. 122°F/superheat 5K/subcooling 5K), thanks to innovative liquid injection technology. The compressor’s 149°F (65 °C) saturated condensing temperature allows for safe hot sanitary water production and comfortable space heating, even with old radiator systems. Evaporating temperatures as low as -22 °F (minus 30 °C) mean the compressor can be applied in colder regions.
Performer PSH compressors can operate year ‘round and need no furnace backup. Simulations demonstrate energy savings of 10 percent for heat pumps fitted with PSH series compressors compared to heat pumps that require a furnace backup.
Compressors in the new range require fewer system components, eliminating the need for a brazed plate heat exchanger, electronic expansion valves and extra piping and reducing costs. All models achieve a compressor Coefficient of Performance (COP) that surpasses requirements for the Eco label (3.4), with some air to water heat pumps posting a COP of 4.11 (equivalent to 14.02 EER).
Optimized for R410A refrigerant, the Performer PSH requires a smaller heat exchanger than systems that use R407A. As a result, the Performer heat pump takes up less space.
In addition, all Performer PSH compressors comply with market demands and legislation regarding sound levels. An optional, patented surface sump heater with integrated insulation can be installed on new models in the Performer PSH series, resulting in sound levels as much as three decibels lower than equivalent products.
