Park and Recreation Professionals Day spotlights the dedicated individuals who keep our parks, grounds, trails and public outdoor spaces welcoming and beautiful. As part of National Park and Recreation Month, July 17 specifically recognizes the professionals whose work enhances outdoor experiences for everyone.

Grounds crews and facility professionals work year-round to mow fields, maintain irrigation systems, prune trees and plants, repair pathways, manage landscaping and ensure parks remain clean and safe for visitors. They also play an important role in protecting natural resources. From implementing sustainable mowing practices to managing irrigation and stormwater and preserving public land, these teams help create spaces to be enjoyed today and for generations to come.

Here are a few grounds management and sustainability articles FacilitiesNet has published in the last year:

On Park and Recreation Professionals Day, take a moment to recognize the hardworking people behind your community’s and facilities’ outdoor spaces. Whether they maintain neighborhood parks, municipal campuses, sports complexes or public facilities, their dedication often goes unnoticed, but its impact is seen every day.
