Occupants Unhappy with Return-to-Work Health and Safety Measures: Survey
While workers are returning to the office as the COVID-19 pandemic continues on, employees are still concerned with returning to buildings that are free of germ-causing agents on surfaces and include less-than-clean air circulating around the workplace.
A survey of 1,000 American office workers conducted in March by Lysol Pro Solutions revealed that only 32 percent of employees returning to the office rate as “excellent” the measures that employees are taking to protect them from the spread of illness-causing germs.
“While employers should protect their employees when they are in the office, the survey shows that employees also want to do more to protect themselves and their co-workers,” says Lisa Ackerly, Medical and Scientific Engagement, Hygiene, at Reckitt’s Lysol Pro Solutions. “A comprehensive office hygiene program should encourage employees to get involved in helping prevent the spread of germs.”
Other key takeaways from the survey include:
- 43% believe their office’s hygiene protocols could be better enforced
- 29% still feel pressure from their boss to come into the office when sick
- 87% feel anxiety about having a physical meeting in a confined space such as a conference room
- 29% avoid communal areas altogether
- 56% want their employer to provide disinfectant sprays and wipes at work, but only 40% say that they are.
