Effective Pest Control
Green, landscape management, equipment and tools November 27, 2007
Hi. This is Chris Matt, Associate Editor of Maintenance Solutions magazine. Today’s tip, pest control.
Many grounds managers face the difficult challenge of controlling pests in landscaped areas that feature many types of plants, shrubs and turf.
To deal with this array of pests, managers have instituted an integrated pest management program, or IPM. With IPM, the days of blanket pesticide applications every two weeks to kill whatever comes around are gone.
When pesticides are called for, however, managers must choose those that will eradicate or suppress the intended pest with little or no harm to the surrounding environment. Using products with a lasting impact will reduce the number of applications and make the timing of application less critical.
Finally, choosing plants that resist pests is one of the best ways to avoid damage and the cost involved in pest management.
