Mobile System Streamlines County’s Workflow
The facility and property management organization for Harris County, Texas, was drowning in paper. Some maintenance technicians for Texas’ third-largest county were responsible for maintaining as many as 13 buildings each.
With a workload spread out over 1,800 square miles, the task was daunting enough. But the organization’s work order system only added to the challenge. A paper-based workflow meant that technicians had to start and finish at a central place where they could pick up work orders and update their status at the end of each shift.
Harris County sought a way to improve communications, streamline the workflow of its technicians and increase productivity. The county chose FacilityCenter 8i, a Web-based facilities management application from Tririga, which allowed constituents to enter work requests directly from their desktop PCs. Also selected was a mobile solution from Syclo to ensure technicians were able to complete their work more efficiently.
Mobile FacilityCenter by Syclo manages work order assignment, timekeeping and work order closure using a hand-held device. Using PocketPC devices, technicians receive work task assignments, record time and status against work tasks, and communicate work task closure to FacilityCenter 8i.
Under the old system, supervisors required nearly three hours each day to gather completed work orders and close them out. The new system frees up supervisors for more strategic work while work order status is updated promptly with the new mobile system.
