SH485 40-ton Scroll Compressor From Danfoss Improves Part-Load Efficiency By 24 Percent
Compressor exceeds new energy standards in air-conditioning applications
BALTIMORE – Danfoss, a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration and motion systems, recently introduced the SH485 40-ton scroll compressor.
The unique intermediate discharge valve (IDV) introduced in the compressor adapts to varying loads and ambient conditions, optimizing the system operation throughout the year. As a result, the SH485 offers up to 24 percent higher part-load efficiency in manifold configurations, compared to other compressors, and helps OEM systems meet stringent new energy standards (IPLV, IEER and ESEER) in air-conditioning applications. The quick, adaptive capability of the IDV also helps lower mechanical stress on the scroll components, enhancing the overall reliability of the compressor and improving system uptime.
Ideal for large R410A chiller and rooftop units, the SH485’s large capacity and unique features help OEMs reduce development, installation and servicing costs. The unit’s compact dimensions (40-ton capacity in the shell of a 30-ton compressor) simplify the design of systems with manifold configurations. At the same time, the compressor provides energy savings, lower sound levels, increased lifetime and lower maintenance costs to end users.
Enhanced reliability can be attributed to a number of components:
The built-in discharge gas temperature sensor is positioned inside the compressor to sense the discharge gas temperature and react quickly when operating conditions exceed safety limits.
The organ pipe retains oil in non-operating compressors under part-load operation in manifold configurations, reducing the number of compressor failures due to poor lubrication. Oil retention also improves heat transfer in the evaporator, boosting overall system efficiency.
The patented X Non-Return Valve placed inside the discharge connector prevents an excessive leak rate from the high pressure side and ensures an unloaded start by balancing the upper cap at the low pressure side after a compressor stop.
Optional advanced compressor electronics broaden the application map, enabling the compressor to perform across a wider range of applications, including brine chilling. In addition, the operating control system offers excellent monitoring, protection diagnosis, communication, data logging and retrieval features.
