McCarthy Building Co.: Company Breaks Ground on New Academic Medical Center
St. Louis, Mo. — May 7, 2015 — McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has broken ground on the new CHI Ambulatory Building, which is part of the new academic complex for Creighton University Medical Center, in Omaha, Neb.
The $35 million, 80,000-square-foot facility will feature a new, team-based approach to health care, education, and the community in one location to serve the region.
“McCarthy is a trusted partner who truly believes in taking care of its clients,” said Josh Olson, senior project manager, facilities operations for CHI. “We know they will deliver the same high standard of care in building this medical center for our community as we do in providing health care and education.”
McCarthy serves as construction manager and general contractor for the new ambulatory building, which will house the region’s first free-standing emergency department as well as outpatient and diagnostic services and community space. Specialty care services will include psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, and a pharmacy.
The facility will also be home to Creighton University’s Family Medicine Residency Program with new technology that enables virtual visits with physicians located across town as well as student-patient learning, all with the goal of enabling interaction while reducing costs for patients. The complex is slated to open in late 2016.
“We know CHI Health is committed to serving the healthcare needs of the Omaha community while looking to develop leading educational opportunities for future healthcare professionals,” said Ryan Felton, McCarthy project director. “We are focused on providing them with excellent customer service throughout the construction of this building, so they can focus on what they do best – providing excellent healthcare and education to the community.”
McCarthy has a long history with CHI Health, serving as construction manager and general contractor to deliver their Generation Patient Program, a $250 million renovation and additional capital improvement program for five hospitals in the Omaha area, including CHI Health Immanuel, CHI Health Bergan Mercy, CHI Health Mercy, CHI Health Midlands, and CHI Health Lakeside l. McCarthy also completed a previous capital improvement program called the New Era Initiative in addition to other various renovations and continuous work.
McCarthy will work with Omaha-based Altus Architectural Studio, Specialized Engineering Solutions (SES) and Davis Companies on the new facility.
