Frontier Communications Deploys High Density Wi-Fi Solutions at American Tobacco Historic District and Durham Bulls Athletic Park

Durham, N.C. — Nov. 10, 2014 — Frontier Communications Corporation recently completed installation of ADTRAN’s ProCloud SM Wi-Fi service at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP) and the adjacent American Tobacco historic district campus.

The upgraded Wi-Fi allows fans, business owners, and other customers to access free, fast Internet service and provides new revenue opportunities for the businesses on the campus.

The Bulls partnered with Frontier Communications and ADTRAN to create a comprehensive managed Wi-Fi system to support the large capacity of the Bulls stadium as well as the historic district campus and its business offices, retail shops, and restaurants.

“Whether you’re a business park, a restaurant, or a stadium with 11,000 fans, consumers will have an excellent Wi-Fi experience,” said Dennis Bloss, Frontier’s vice president and area general manager for North Carolina.

Frontier, the official Wi-Fi provider at the DBAP, customized the stadium’s new wireless network to support unique in-game features, particularly the ability to provide live, high-quality replays on mobile devices. It also provided the equipment and backhaul capacity for the Wi-Fi network, as well as 24-hour support for end users.

Based on ADTRAN’s ProCloud Wi-Fi service, the DBAP benefits from a managed cloud wireless service which includes 24x7 help desk support for any fan connectivity issues during games.

“There’s nothing like a game at Durham Bulls Athletic Park,” said Bulls GM Mike Birling. “With our vastly improved Wi-Fi solution, fans will be able to interact with us on game day like never before. Frontier and ADTRAN really stepped up to the plate with a comprehensive cloud wireless solution, which offloads the network management burden from our limited IT staff.”

More than 100 businesses at the American Tobacco historic district campus are using the improved Wi-Fi capacity to serve restaurant and retail customers, as well as the start-up community at American Tobacco known as the “American Underground.”

“ADTRAN’s ProCloud Wi-Fi service streamlines the delivery of reliable, highly available cloud-managed services so that service providers like Frontier can quickly meet customer needs, easily scale to address new capacity demands, and offload time-consuming network management activities,” said Meggin Sawyer, VP Sales, ADTRAN.

“We worked as one team to deliver the best possible Wi-Fi solution to American Tobacco Historic District and the Durham Bulls, resulting in a greatly enhanced fan experience and new revenue opportunities for  the campus.”
