Lighting Controls Training Course Program Expanded

Nonprofit organization offering free courses for facility managers and technicians.   June 26, 2025

By Dave Lubach, Executive Editor

A series of free training courses on lighting controls offered earlier this year by the nonprofit organization Slipstream has expanded to include more in-depth sessions for an audience that includes facility managers and anyone else designing lighting systems.

Slipstream, a climate energy organization, released a series of courses earlier this year that focused on training facility managers who are tasked with lighting projects, and work with energy service companies. The courses are directed by lighting industry experts.

The training program was funded by a grant from the Department of Defense’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program. Slipstream designed the courses for both managers and technicians, from refresher levels and specific areas of control operations to more in-depth training and knowledge.

The new course offerings include 17 more longer classes that go further in depth about advanced lighting controls. Managers and technicians can register for the new classes in two places – here on the Slipstream website and here

Previously offered courses are available at this YouTube page

Slipstream’s hour-long courses also offer continuing education credit.

Topics covered include occupancy sensors, daylighting, integrating lighting and HVAC controls in buildings, and cybersecurity.

Dave Lubach is the executive editor for the facilities market.
