Sixteen injuries, including several severe lacerations have been reported as a result of a defective hedge trimmer product, which is now being recalled.
The RYOBI 40-Volt 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmers, manufactured by TTI Outdoor Power Equipment, are being recalled due to a malfunction that can cause severe lacerations. If either the safety button or trigger controls are engaged individually, the blade can start unexpectedly, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice. For safety, both buttons are supposed to have to be engaged simultaneously to start the trimmer.
The trimmers were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores nationwide between March 2021 and January 2025. Facility managers who purchased these trimmers must return the trimmers to the point of purchase for a refund.
In addition to the reports of 16 injuries, there have been 27 total reports of the trimmer blades engaging unexpectedly.
