Getting Started on a LEED-EBOM Initiative Now
With LEEDv4 on the horizon, is it even worthwhile starting a LEED-EBOM initiative now?
Yes, it is especially worthwhile. Registering under the LEED 2009 program will provide the project team with flexibility in the future. Due for release next year, LEEDv4 will become more stringent across the board. As LEED continues to evolve, the U.S. Green Building Council always raises the bar with more stringent requirements in every LEED program. If an owner chooses to register a project now, the team will have an option to complete the certification under the LEED 2009 program, or change the registration to LEEDv4 when it becomes available in 2013. There is no cost to change programs, so you are losing nothing and gaining everything by registering your project now. Since the fee for registration is only $900 it makes sense to register now and then make the decision to upgrade or not later in the process.
