How Facility Management Education Opportunities are Expanding

Part 1 of a two-part interview on education programs focuses on the emerging FM degree programs.   July 17, 2023

By Dave Lubach, Executive Editor

Facility managers don’t always walk a conventional path to their positions. Many of them find their way into the position via jobs in the trades, moving up through the construction industry, or other ways.

More and more managers are focusing on the position at the college level, taking a specific career path aimed at facility management. Alana Dunoff, an adjunct professor in the facility management program at Temple University in Philadelphia, talks with Executive Editor Dave Lubach about the educational opportunities available to prospective FM students.

This is the first of a two-part video discussion with Dunoff. The second part of the interview will be published at a later date and can be found on facilitiesnet.com.

Here's what you’ll learn from this video:

  • When facility management programs became more popular as an educational option in institutions of higher learning, 0:42.
  • How an FM program distinguishes a job candidate from candidates from other backgrounds, 2:07.
  • How current FMs use college programs for recruiting purposes, 3:44.
