About the Webcast:
With lighting in commercial buildings typically accounting for 25-30 percent of energy use, the arrival of new, more efficient lighting products that significantly reduce energy costs are a true boon to facility managers. That efficiency is accompanied by a tiny amount of mercury, a naturally occurring element that is critical for the energy-saving attributes of these lamps and, depending on the nature of the exposure, can be harmful to human health, making it important that lamps, like other products containing mercury, be properly managed at the end of life to prevent release to the environment. In other words: any lamp containing mercury should be recycled. So how can facility managers get smart about recycling mercury-containing lamps? And what is the best way to respond to sometimes differing federal and state disposal requirements?
In this Webcast, presented by Mark Tibbetts, Director of Recycling Initiatives for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), and Barry Jordan, Board Member of the Association of Lighting and Mercury Recyclers, attendees will learn about their options when it comes to lamp recycling and how to develop a successful strategy in their organization.
The Webcast will address:
* Energy-saving capabilities of compact fluorescent and HID lighting products
* Facts about mercury in lamps and lighting products
* Keys for safe disposal at the end of lamp life
* Federal and state regulations regarding lamp recycling
* Establishing a lamp recycling program in a facility
