Michael Graves Design Group Unveils The Voyages Collection for CF Stinson

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- CF Stinson, a leading resource for performance fabrics for healthcare and other contract interiors, has revealed Voyages, a collection of high performance surface materials for seating, designed by world-renowned architect and product designer, Michael Graves. Inspired by Mr. Graves’ love of travel and the exploration of distant places, the Voyages Collection features six distinct patterns and is specifically designed for healthcare and other environments that require durable and cleanable surfaces. Voyages will make its marketplace debut at Healthcare Design 2011, the leading conference for healthcare design, planning, and research professionals.
“CF Stinson has given me the opportunity to provide a fresh and new approach to patterns on surface materials for seating.  By blending literal and abstract concepts, I want to encourage the impression of familiarity and also allow them to be seen in a slightly different way,” said Michael Graves.
The Patterns in Voyages
As a young post-graduate student, Mr. Graves spent two years at the American Academy in Rome where he immersed himself in the art, architecture and culture of that classic city.  In the years that followed, his work as an architect and designer has taken him to nearly every continent and every great city on the globe. It is these experiences that shape the patterns in the Voyages Collection.
“Latitude”, with its pattern of lines and circles composed of tiny dots recalls the simple rustic elegance of hand-stitched vintage Japanese textiles. “Auberge”, a large abstract floral composition, suggests the garden of a lovely old countryside inn in France. “Entrada”, with its unique dimensionality achieved through the play of shadow and light, implies a gateway to another place or time. “Excursion” is reminiscent of a walk through a park on a crisp autumn day with leaves scattered on the path.  “Passport”, a mid-scale checkered grid, recalls the topographical tapestries we see from an airplane widow as we travel over the farms and fields that are the work of agrarian cultures around the world.  And “Valise”, with its unexpected interplay of matte and gloss finishes on a monochromatic leather-like background, is a modern interpretation of the embossed leathers used by Vienna Secession designers in early 20th century decorative arts.
“CF Stinson is delighted to collaborate with Michael Graves on yet another stunning collection,” said Glenn Stinson, vice president of CF Stinson. “Through Michael Graves’ design mastery, the Voyages Collection offers an elegant embossed leather aesthetic that is not typically found in high performance surface materials for seating.”
