MCAA/MSCA Revise Model NFPA 70E Program for Service

ROCKVILLE, MD—The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and its Mechanical Service Contractors of America (MSCA) subsidiary have released a revised version of their Model NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Program for Service. The program has been modified to bring its contents into line with recent revisions to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)’s Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. The current version of the standard is NFPA 70E – 2012. The model program addresses electrical safety for work on HVAC equipment pushing 480 volts or less.
“The Model NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Program for Service was designed specifically for mechanical service contractors,” notes Tom Skaggs, Chairman of MCAA’s Safety and Health Committee and Vice President – Safety for the Murphy Company. “The program is based largely on information from NFPA 70E – 2012, Article 130 – Work Involving Electrical Hazards,” he adds.
“The NFPA has increased the frequency of its 70E standard revision cycle to every three years,” notes MCAA Director of Safety and Health Pete Chaney. “It is more important than ever that contractors review their electrical safety programs to ensure that they are current with regard to the best safe work practices available.”
The Model NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Program for Service is available for immediate download from MCAA’s Bookstore at www.mcaa.org/store, where contractors can also find a wide variety of safety publications designed specifically for the mechanical construction, service and plumbing industries. There is no charge for MCAA and MSCA members to download the publication. The cost for non-members is $54.
For additional information about MCAA’s Safety Excellence Initiative or the ways in which these revisions to NFPA 70E will impact your business, please contact Pete Chaney at 800-556-3653 or pchaney@mcaa.org.
