4 Eppstein Uhen Projects Win Sustainable SE2 Building Awards
Milwaukee, Wis. — Dec. 2, 2014 — Wisconsin Green Building Alliance (WGBA) announced the winners of its Sustainability Energy Efficiency (SE2) Awards during a reception dinner in Oconomowoc. The awards show the continued commitment Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA) has to sustainability and creating high-performance buildings.
The awards, given out Nov. 13, recognize leadership in energy-efficient and sustainable design, construction, and operation of Wisconsin commercial buildings and related systems.
The goal of the program is to encourage greater collaboration among owners, designers, builders, and operators by highlighting the value of projects that enhance the built environment. The winning projects were selected by a panel of judges of experienced and respected professionals in the A/E/C industry.
EUA’s four winning projects are:
• Focus on Energy Award of Excellence, Northwestern Mutual Van Buren Office Building: This building was chosen for the outstanding quality of the integration of architectural design with the building systems. The building resulted in a stunning space comprised of new and recycled materials that offered one of the best lighting designs in the history of the competition.
• Award of Merit, J.F. Ahern Company: This building was chosen for the appearance and appeal of the working mechanical room and system identification. The overall ethos of organization, clarity, and teaching by example is carried out everywhere.
• Award of Merit, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, School of Public Health: This project was chosen as a prime example of rescuing and redesigning a historic structure. The team preserved numerous aspects of the original structure, added on a sensitively designed expansion, and created a desirable academic and work environment.
• Special Citation, Edgerton Hospital and Health Services: This building was chosen for the use of a large geothermal heat-exchange array. This will contribute to a 40 percent reduction in energy use compared to a standard design, a first for a freestanding hospital in Wisconsin..
