22 Capital Partners, a venture builder and private equity company, announced today that it has selected Avaya as a foundation technology partner for its 22 CityLink Smart City In-a-Box Platform. Together with its world-class partners, 22 Capital Partners will lead the development of an ecosystem to create smart city technology, education and innovation, starting at the Gramercy District development in Loudoun County.
The Gramercy District is the first “smart city” in the region and one of the first in the country. The goal is to merge technology with real estate to deliver unique experiences and enhance quality of life. Gramercy District will create an environment that continuously adapts to meet the needs of business partners and guests who are working, living, shopping and playing in the smart city. The vision is that Gramercy District becomes the model for the new standard of living.
The 22 CityLink Platform’s “Network Layer” provides the base connectivity foundation for a managed unified communication and data fabric, which will provide universal access, mobility and practically unlimited bandwidth. The secure communication and data fabric provides on-demand and dynamic network services, and enables seamless B2B, B2C, and IoT connectivity and communications solutions, including smart applications for Smart Healthcare, Smart Education, and more.
Avaya Fabric Connect enables 22 CityLink to deliver a simplified, agile and resilient infrastructure that makes network configuration and deployment of new services faster and easier. “Avaya Software-Defined Network (SDN-Fx) provides a simple and flexible network foundation with built-in stealth networking technology, which secures the everywhere perimeter of IoT,” said Jean Turgeon, vice president and chief technologist software defined architecture for Avaya. “Rather than adding overlays or additional protocols, the Avaya SDN-FxTM architecture securely and instantly virtualizes the network to make integration, orchestrations and on-ramping of new applications and devices easier than ever while providing a secure and highly scalable multi-tenant infrastructure.”
In addition, the Avaya BreezeTM platform exposes powerful enterprise collaboration capabilities well suited to the development of a holistic approach needed for smart cities.
“The 22 CityLink platform is bringing together state-of-the-art technologies from around the world, and we are excited to be selected as a key part of the foundation of this innovative platform for the Smart Digital World,” said Kevin J. Kennedy, president and CEO of Avaya. “We are looking forward to designing a Center of Excellence to showcase Smart City solutions in a ‘living laboratory’ environment at Gramercy District.”
Minh Le, managing partner of 22 Capital Partners, said, “Having Avaya as an anchor tenant and foundation technology partner located at Gramercy District accelerates our smart mixed-use development. Avaya brings world-class solutions to 22 CityLink with its truly innovative approach, perfect for the demands of a smart city platform.” Le continued, “For our customers, and our ever-expanding pipeline of other smart city development projects, our goal is to deliver a single, simplified and secured Software-Defined Networking environment to keep pace with the burgeoning demand for mobile, social and cloud-based communications applications. With Avaya, this is possible.”
By integrating the Avaya SDN-Fx architecture and the Avaya Breeze platform into the 22 CityLink platform, the added flexibility and scalability provided will create the perfect foundation for an unprecedented smart city solution with innumerable capabilities; the smart city of the future is on the horizon.
