VMZINC Receives Municipal Award In Metal Construction Association's 2014 Chairman's Awards
Raleigh, N.C. — Oct. 2, 2014 – VMZINC-US, the international brand name of rolled zinc products manufactured and sold by the Building Products Unit of the Umicore group, has announced that the company received the Municipal Award in the Metal Construction Association’s (MCA) 2014 Chairman’s Awards.
The Chairman’s Awards are handed out annually to projects presented by MCA member companies. VMZINC was chosen by an experienced panel of architecture and design experts for the Municipal Award, for its innovation and creativity in showcasing metal products through outstanding building design.
VMZINC’s winning project was the Newport Beach Civic Center and Parking Structure, designed by national architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. The Civic Center includes an 88,000-square-foot City Hall, with zinc architectural features that helped the building earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Level Certification. The 155,000-square-foot parking structure encompasses 450 parking spaces, providing free parking for City Hall, library, and park visitors, as well as city vehicles and staff.
“We are honored to receive the Municipal Award in the 2014 Chairman’s Awards for our work to provide the City of Newport Beach with an outstanding structure that showcases the environmentally friendly and economical properties of zinc,” said Daniel Nicely, managing director at VMZINC-US and Umicore Building Products, USA Inc.
“The MCA sets the standard in our industry, and their recognition is a testament to the innovative work that we do here at VMZINC. We look forward to continuing to provide our customers with only the highest quality zinc-based design projects and materials.”
