Custom Equipment Upgrades Its HB-830 Low-Level Scissor Lift: New Lift Offers Exceptional Productivity on Low-Level Jobs
RICHFIELD, Wis. – Custom Equipment has upgraded its Hy-Brid HB-830 low-level scissor lift with a longer platform to give maintenance crews and contractors more space for tools and supplies. The all-purpose lift has a capacity of 500 pounds so users can load the platform with a generous amount of materials, thereby reducing the number of trips up and down to reload the lift. The lightweight unit also features a zero turn radius for easy maneuverability in confined spaces. It allows users to perform work like drywall, electrical and HVAC at heights up to 14 feet.
The HB-830’s platform is 25.5 inches wide and 55.75 inches long – nearly 9 inches longer than the original model. It can accommodate two people at a time and provides them ample working space. It also features a 30-inch slide-out extension for even greater area. The extension has a capacity of 250 pounds and is supported by the lift’s midrail, which eliminates jamming associated with traditional rollers.
The HB-830 unit features dual front wheels that help distribute the machine’s weight and provide lower wheel loads. Paired with its lightweight design, the unit is able to work on delicate flooring, including tile, laminate, raised floors and mezzanines, with much lower potential for damage. Users also can get onto poured concrete several days sooner with the HB-830 than with heavier competitor models.
In addition, the counter-rotating wheels reduce friction so users can maneuver over tile or carpeting without marking or causing tears. Custom Equipment also designed the unit with rounded corners to minimize inadvertent damage to walls. The lift’s zero-turn radius does even more to prevent damage because users can make precise turns around tight corners. This also allows operators to access areas that are inaccessible to lifts with wider turning radiuses.
The HB-830’s completely self-contained hydraulic system has only two connection points, so it is a clean system for operating indoors in both finished and unfinished environments. This reduces the potential for hydraulic fluid leaks, which lead to floor damage and potential safety hazards.
The Hy-Brid HB-830’s platform is operated up and down by the unit’s hydraulics, while the electrical drive and steering systems are powered by two 12-volt, deep-cycle batteries. Since the systems are electrical rather than hydraulic, they draw fewer amps and require less overall power. While electric drive and steering is standard for the HB-830, it is not available in other manufacturers’ lifts. This, combined with lightweight construction, allows the unit’s battery power to last up to two times longer, or as long as 10-16 hours. In addition, the HB-830 lift is heavy-duty, safe and lightweight, with low wheel loads so users can maneuver them over delicate floors and get onto green concrete sooner.
Custom Equipment uses state-of-the-art technology to test its designs before building all of its lifts, including the HB-830. This testing process allows the company to use a high-grade of steel, and because it is stronger, less material is required and the lifts weigh less than competitive machines. In addition, the process identifies stress points so they can be reinforced without adding a lot of unnecessary weight. Custom Equipment also builds its lifts with robust scissor stacks that feature oversized, 1.25-inch pins to reduce scissor sway and enhance stability. The HB-830 also is equipped with a tilt sensor that alerts operators if loads become unbalanced so they can make adjustments and minimize the risk of tipping.
The HB-830 also provides safer, easier access to the platform with an entry height of 18 inches, one of the lowest available. This not only reduces the fatigue and knee strain associated with climbing on and off the lift, but also nearly eliminates potential falls that can occur when operators are using lifts with taller entry heights and are loading and unloading heavy tools and supplies. The enhanced safety results in lower Workers’ Compensation claims and greater profitability. The HB-830 also features an access gate that swings completely open so users can step up and onto the platform. Since it eliminates the need to duck under bars or chains, the gate makes it less likely that a user will suffer neck or back-strain injuries. They also can easily load heavy, awkward materials like drywall and lumber for framing by simply walking up and onto the platform instead of lifting the materials up and over a bar or chain.
In addition to greater safety compared to other lifts, the HB-830 provides a safer, more efficient alternative to ladders and other manual methods commonly used to perform maintenance and industrial work in low-level-access areas. With the potential for falls from ladders or scaffolding virtually eliminated, operators can confidently maneuver tools and materials. It also reduces the number of trips up and down to secure tools or supplies, and the larger platform enhances efficiency by reducing the number of times a user needs to reposition as a project progresses.
Finally, the HB-830 lift is easy to maintain. It features an on-board battery charger that self monitors the current and stops it once the battery is fully charged. This provides a distinct advantage over non-monitoring systems that continue to feed the current into fully charged
batteries, which can shorten their life and cause them to burn out. Custom Equipment also offers optional absorbent glass mat (AGM) batteries that never require users to add water.
