The Data You Need to Check Combustion Equipment Without The Extras You Don’t

Anaheim, Calif. – Fieldpiece Instruments, the company that supplies the family of test tools HVACR professionals trust to do more, introduces the SOX3 Combustion Check Standalone tool.  The only one of its kind that has a field-replaceable sensor, the SOX3 gives technicians accurate combustion testing, measuring flue gas %O2, temperature, and calculating %CO2 and % Excess Air.  The SOX3 is also the only combustion check tool in the market that can test for non-conventional fuels in addition to testing the three most common fuel types for residential and light commercial combustion equipment: Natural gas, Oil #2, and Propane.
“Allowing the field technician to replace the sensor is a huge time saving and convenience factor, because they don’t have to lose access to their tool while it’s being calibrated,” said Russ Harju, product manager. “This is such a smart meter, the field-replaceable sensor has an indicator so techs know exactly when it is time to replace it,” added Harju.
When installing and servicing a furnace, most technicians don’t need a full-on combustion analysis to tune a system. A majority of heating appliance manufacturers provide targets for %O2, temperature, and %CO2 in flue gas. Some are now including targets for % Excess Air. The SOX3 gives them these measurements without the costly extras of full-on combustion analyzers.
Properly tuned gas combustion equipment consumes less fuel (lower energy bills for the customer), lasts longer, and produces little or no carbon monoxide or soot.
The SOX3 switches between custom fuel, Natural gas, Oil #2, and Propane fuel types by selecting the proper fuel type.  The differentiation between fuel types provides a more accurate calculation of %CO2. The SOX3 measures percent oxygen (%O2) and stack temperature by utilizing the internal automatic pump and included high-temperature thermocouple into the flue. Then it calculates the resulting percent carbon dioxide (%CO2) and excess air (%EA) present during combustion.
The H/Min/Max button holds the minimum, maximum or current reading so the technician doesn’t have to keep his eye on the meter all the time. He can even hang the meter using the magnet and barrel lock to concentrate on getting the sample. Other features include a bright blue backlight that helps the technician easily read the display in poorly lit areas. The auto power off (APO) helps extend battery life by turning the meter off after 15 minutes of inactivity.  The included thermocouple takes accurate temperature readings up to 1000°F. The internal automatic pump helps ensure consistent and reliable measurements by protecting the sensor from moisture and contaminants. The SOX3 also comes with a blow-molded carrying case, filters, and cone to stabilize the wand while in the flue. The SOX3 is priced competitively at $399.00 (suggested trade).
