Product Release: Synex Controls Web-Based Boiler Room Controls Tool
PULASKI, NY— Synex Controls (www.synexcontrols.com), the industry-leading developer of heat transfer control products, announces the launch of its latest product innovation in boiler room control system monitoring.
The newly-released inSite for ModSync™ tool provides a private portal for remote web-based access to a facility’s boiler room controls. Used in conjunction with the Synex ModSync sequencing system, the inSite for ModSync interface provides real-time boiler system status using any traditional web browser, including a web-enabled cell phone.
“Remote access to the boiler system is a huge asset in terms of system cost savings and efficiencies,” said Synex Controls Business Manager Joel Southwell. “The impact is so significant, the tool has the capability to pay for itself in the first months of use.”
Users of inSite for ModSync can access real-time system status, make adjustments, monitor maintenance schedules, receive email and text-message alerts and review systems reports -- all via a user-friendly, full-color icon-based interface. The inSite for ModSync is directly supported by remote technical assistance, requires no software installation or licensing fees, and can be configured to allow multiple administrators. In addition, simple step-by-step instructions guide first time users.
The tool is backed by engineers with decades of experience, who are reviewing system statistics. If the boiler system is not running at optimal levels, an email is sent not only to facility administrators, but also to Synex Controls system engineers for review and action.
“The cutting-edge technology of InSite for ModSync helps users optimize boiler efficiency for hydronic, steam boiler and thermal fluid heater installations,” said Southwell. “Without a properly designed sequencing system in place, multiple-boiler systems lack the capability to minimize cycling and maintain even operational usage across the equipment -- which ultimately reduces equipment life. Designing the control logic to minimize the number of times a specific unit cycles minimizes wear on the boiler system and significantly extends the equipment life cycle.”
In addition, the system responds to outdoor temperature readings and adjusts the loop setpoint accordingly. Hydronic systems, for example, are configured to maintain building temperatures at design temperature, ensuring there is enough heat on the coldest days. If the outdoor temperature is warmer than the design temperature, the boiler plant has too much capacity. With a control system in place, lower hydronic loops will contribute to higher system efficiencies – which in turn translates to significant energy savings.
ModSync and inSite for ModSync applications can be retrofitted and customized according to specifications. Features also include:
• Setback Scheduling: The loop setpoint can be configured to change, based on occupancy of the building. This allows for automatic switchover to lower operating temperatures during off hours, such as nights, weekends and holidays.
• System Interface Flexibility: The equipment can be custom programmed to match the most demanding system design requirements, eliminating “canned logic” limitations.
• Multiple Setpoint Modes: Easily select between ModSync Outdoor Reset, Remote Setpoint, E/BMS Communication or Manual setpoint modes through ModSync touch screen.
• Trending: Key variables, such as Supply Temperature, Return Temperature, Outdoor Temperature and Setpoint, can be trended to show system response and performance data.
• Alarm Status and History: Alarm status is easily communicated with a text description of the current alarm. No alarm code deciphering or cross-referencing is required. The alarm history features provide a date and time stamp of any recent alarm conditions.
• Building Integration: The equipment can be configured to communicate with energy/building management systems using Modbus, BACnet, LonWorks or N2 protocols.
• Alerts: Text message and email alerts provide valuable notification that an alarm condition has been sensed.
