Date: 18 Oct 2011
Time: 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: Stevenson High School, (Room 2104) One Stevenson Drive, Lincolnshire IL
Program Description:
Join the North/Northwest Branch of USGBC - Illinois and Adlai E. Stevenson High School for an evening of education and celebration!
The evening will feature the success of Adlai E. Stevenson High School’s recent certification of LEED Gold for Existing Buildings (EB). You will find out how the Green Committee guided Stevenson High School to a sustainable path long before achieving LEED Certification. A quick review of the LEED Existing Building criteria will demonstrate how Stevenson High School became first in class for sustainability. It was the first LEED-EB school in Illinois and first LEED-EB high school in the United States. This community celebration will be filled with student guided tours and end with panel discussion of the school’s landmark achievement. This noteworthy event will include the formal presentation of the LEED Plaque to the school. This event is free and open to the public but please register for the event so that we can accurately plan and provide GBCI CE Hours for your attendance.
If you are not familiar with Stevenson High School, this is an opportunity to see how a high school campus with a building footprint of over 833,000 square feet serving a student population of about 4,000 and a staff over 600 on a daily basis can be sustainable. The school campus achieved a 7% reduction in energy use and increased the indoor environmental quality within the school. Other sustainable efforts led to integration of sustainable teachings within the school curriculum. Student and staff participation in recycling goals have increased waste stream management while reducing paper use. This is an educational event that you will not want to miss!
