Maintenance and engineering managers who need to dispose of unwanted paints and coatings products often are limited to government-run hazardous waste facilities and one-day roundup events that feature limited hours, days and locations.
The American Coatings Association in 2009 created the PaintCare Inc., a non-profit organization that represents paint manufacturers and establishes an expanded list of paint drop-off locations that are paint retailers who volunteer to take back paint and make recycling and disposal more convenient.
PaintCare has programs in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Minnesota, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont, with plans to include Washington, D.C. Officials hope to introduce the program in other states.
