The U.S. Department of State is hiring Foreign Service Facility Managers to fulfill mission-critical roles overseas.

Facility Managers administer the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures and utilities overseas while supervising one of the largest and most diverse work forces domestically or at our posts overseas.

Facility Managers (FMs) are the facilities and operations professional experts at U.S. diplomatic missions around the world. They deliver a wide range of building-related services and direct operations to include large aspects of commercial and residential buildings and related building systems. They manage physical resources and direct asset management operations in specific overseas countries. The Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) provides safe, secure, functional and resilient facilities abroad. FMs are key members of the management team overseas at our Embassies and Consulates who effectively manage and maintain U.S. Government properties within accepted U.S. industry standards. OBO promotes a holistic life-cycle approach to managing facilities. FMs may be assigned as Regional Facility Managers with responsibilities for FM program activities in several countries. FMs normally supervise one of the largest and most diverse work forces at our posts overseas and lead teams that include engineers, technicians and mechanics.

The duties of this position include:

• Facilities maintenance and operations strategic planning.

• Management of USG-owned and leased properties.

• Facilities operation and management.

• Management of facilities related services and projects, in accordance with Department of State service standards.

• Supervises engineers, tradesmen, maintenance staff and other facilities personnel and contractors.

FMs are considered “essential personnel” and are on call to provide services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
