JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Regional Facilities Maintenance Director is responsible for the management of a vast facilities portfolio that spans over 400,000 acres and includes 50+ buildings, multiple campgrounds, organizational fleet vehicles, and other related facilities and stationary equipment. Responsible for both long-term planning and day-to-day execution, this role sets the vision for facility maintenance, capital improvements, and operational standards that ensure safe, efficient and sustainable assets. This role requires progressive experience in facilities management with expertise in strategic planning, multisite operations, and departmental leadership, combining tactical execution with a forward-looking approach to infrastructure management.
Day-to-day this role oversees technicians and specialist team members, contractors, and subcontractors, establishing priorities and balancing immediate operational needs with strategic goals. This position will direct preventative maintenance programs, manage renovations and expansions, and continuously improve systems to extend the life cycle of facilities.
Long-term this role will maintain records, track performance, and deliver reports and recommendations that shape divisional and departmental decisions on budgets, projects, and resource allocation. In addition they will play a central role in developing departmental policies, defining project scopes, and ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
JOB DUTIES:
30% Facilities Operations and Maintenance Management
●Oversee daily facility operations, including preventative maintenance and repairs including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural.
●Direct seasonal grounds maintenance including fencing, lawn maintenance, snow removal, and sign installation/ repair.
●Receive, review and prioritize maintenance requests based on urgency, safety and resource availability.
●Direct renovations, expansions, and facility improvements across the project area.
●Provide input and direction on new construction builds as needed.
20% Strategic Planning and Capital Improvements
●Develop long-range maintenance strategies and capital improvement plans.
●Partner with senior leadership on budgets, scoping projects, and resource allocation.
●Align departmental priorities with organizational objectives and long-term asset sustainability.
20% Departmental Leadership and Staff Oversight
●Lead, mentor, and supervise team members.
●Manage subcontractors and contractors.
●Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
10% Fleet Management
●Oversee preventative maintenance, repairs, and replacement of organizational vehicles.
●Ensure fleet operations are compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
Track fleet usage, maintenance schedules, and cost efficiency to support operational readiness.
10% Compliance, Records, and Reporting
●Ensure compliance with organizational policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
●Maintain detailed records of repairs, service schedules, and capital projects.
●Prepare reports, data analyses, and summaries for division leadership.
10% Continuous Improvement and Contractor Engagement
●Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and extend asset life cycles.
●Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and contractors.
●Cultivate and maintain a list of dependable regional contractors in each of the building trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, well-drilling/maintenance, carpentry, general contractors)
●Contribute recommendations that support organizational growth and operational excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
●Enthusiasm for and positive representation of American Prairie’s mission, values, goals, and culture.
●Bachelor`s degree in Engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent experience.
●5-10+ years of progressive working experience in facilities management, maintenance operations, or infrastructure oversight. Proven success in building and leading dispersed teams.
●Demonstrated expertise in managing building systems, groundskeeping, and multi-site building operations.
●Proven ability to manage vendors, contractors, and direct large-scale maintenance projects.
●Strong skills in project management, capital planning, budgeting, and compliance.
●Skilled in conflict resolution, negotiation, and vendor relationship management.
●Adaptive leader capable of balancing immediate operational needs with long-term strategic objectives.
●Visionary strategic planning with the ability to manage rapid growth and multi-site development.

●Occasionally lifting or moving objects up to 25-50 pounds (tools, supplies, small equipment).
●Ability to handle tools, operate machinery, or perform inspections requiring fine motor skills.
●Ability to read blueprints, monitors, or inspection materials.
●Exposure to variable weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
●Valid driver’s license and ability to drive trucks, tractors, skid steer, trailers, and all-terrain vehicles.
●Ability to drive long distances alone in remote areas and navigate unmaintained or potentially hazardous dangerous 2-tracks and roads in varied conditions such as mud, ice and snow.
●Ability to travel frequently in remote areas.
●Ability to work varied or long hours, on-call hours, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
Preferred
●Experience overseeing fleet operations and vehicle maintenance.
●Working trade experience (i.e., construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, water/septic, vehicle repairs).
●Experience with Esri, Google Workspace, Box, and/ Wrike.
