About 554,100 customers remain without power.

A restoration work force totaling more than 18,600 line, tree-clearing and support personnel from 33 states and Canada has restored power to 2.6 million customers, 83 percent of the 3.2 million customers left without power by Hurricane Wilma nine days ago. About 554,100 customers remain without power.

While some crews will remain in West Coast and Treasure Coast counties until all customers have power restored, the Florida Power & Light (FPL) restoration force will continue to converge on the remaining damaged areas in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

In the tri-county area, restoration workers are making steady progress, but because of the extensive and widespread damage from Wilma, there are many isolated outages that take more time to restore. In many cases, poles or lines have been damaged and require crews to clear debris and repair equipment, often in hard to access backyards. Consequently fewer customers are restored daily. Customers are encouraged to give crews the right of way as they move about the area to restore power, to refrain from stopping crews to ask questions about the restoration process and to keep storm debris away from the base of power poles and from ground-level transformers.

FPL announced the following restoration completion times for the following counties:

• Essentially all customers in St. Lucie and Martin counties will have power restored by end of day Friday, Nov. 4.

• In Palm Beach County, the areas of Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 11. The area north of PGA Blvd. will be essentially restored by end of day Friday, Nov. 4. All other areas in Palm Beach County will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 9.

• In Broward, the area west and south of I-75 will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 9. The area north of I-595 and west of University Drive will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 9. All other areas in Broward County will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 13.

• In Miami-Dade, the area north of SW 8th Street will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 11. The area between SW 8th Street and SW 88th Street will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 10. Miami Beach south of SW 79th Street will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 10. And all areas south of SW 88th Street will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 8.

The announced dates represent the very latest date that essentially all customers in each area will get electric service back; the great majority of customers will have power restored well before these estimated dates.
