The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has released new online publications covering hazardous drugs in health-care settings; worker falls through skylights and roof and floor openings; and NIOSH's response to the World Trade Center attacks.

NIOSH Publication No. 2004-165: Preventing Occupational Exposure to Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Health Care Settings is an alert to increase awareness among health-care workers and their employers about the health risks posed by working with hazardous drugs and to provide them with measures for protecting their health. Health-care workers who prepare or administer hazardous drugs or who work in areas where these drugs are used may be exposed to these agents in the air or on work surfaces, contaminated clothing, medical equipment, patient excreta and other surfaces. The number of exposed workers exceeds 5.5 million.

A NIOSH Alert, Preventing Falls of Workers through Skylights and Roof and Floor Openings , DHHS (NIOSH) Pub. No. 2004-156, is now available. It describes five deaths resulting from falls through skylights and roof and floor openings, and provides recommendations for preventing these fatal job-related falls.

A new safety and health topic page on the NIOSH Web site provides information on NIOSH's response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. World Trade Center Response includes air sampling reports, worker surveys results, and links to emergency response resources.
