Association Announces 2005 Green Roof Awards



The Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) 2005 Awards of Excellence winners were announced recently by GRHC, the North American trade association for the green roof industry.




The Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) 2005 Awards of Excellence winners were announced recently by GRHC, the North American trade association for the green roof industry. The awards recognize green roof projects that exhibit extraordinary leadership in integrated design and implementation.

The winners were chosen for industrial/commercial, institutional, and residential projects in both the intensive and extensive green roof categories. Intensive green roofs are those with more than six inches of growing medium, and extensive roofs have six inches or less.

The first six award categories apply to all types of buildings and installed green roof designs:

• Extensive Residential: Yorktown Square Condominiums, Falls Church, VA.

• Extensive Institutional: Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA.

• Extensive Industrial/Commercial: Heinz 57 Center, Pittsburgh, PA.

• Intensive Residential: North Beach Place, San Francisco, CA.

• Intensive Institutional: Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, Chicago, IL.

• Intensive Industrial/Commercial: Millennium Park, Chicago, IL.

Another award, The Green Roof Civic Award of Excellence, awarded to a public servant for outstanding contribution to the community and the development of the green roof industry. This year's honoree is Karen Moyer of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
