Facebook’s parent company Meta announced plans to build a massive 700,000-square-foot data center in southern Indiana. The $800 million hyperscale data center will be the first of its kind – an entire facility dedicated to “generative AI workloads,” according to Network World. The new data center is expected to be operational by 2026.

Also significant: The project, which has been in the works since 2019, will be powered with 100 percent renewable energy. The project is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, as well.

The data center will be Meta’s 18th in the U.S. and 22nd in the world.
