Picking the Best BAS

December 2011 - Building Automation

How do you pick the best and most economically viable BAS vendor for your application?

It depends on how big your building or campus is, the building use and what is being monitored. The facility manger needs to clearly identify the technical requirements of the system, the system applications and the user interface. Aside from the technical requirements, major considerations for clients I've noted are the contractor’s local resources and the responsiveness of their service.

Clients may want to vet the local office of the BAS manufacturer and evaluate or establish service or maintenance such as timeframes for emergency response service policy or a regular business day service and set penalties if they're not met.
