In May 2012, OSHA decided to do away with its current – and most frequently cited – Hazard Communication Standard, and align with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. The result? A new, far-reaching standard requiring the stringent labeling of hazardous chemicals in the workplace, and in-depth training for any staff that handles them. Millions of Material Safety and Data Sheets and labels currently in circulation must be revised, rewritten and republished to comply with GHS provisions.
The standard becomes mandatory on June 1, 2015, but with a key staff training deadline of December 1, 2013 already looming, this issue promises to be a game-changer.
No matter how your facility uses chemicals, you will be affected by this newly adopted language. Even cleaning products are covered by this newly adopted GHS, as are compressed gases, pool chlorine and a host of other flammable, toxic and corrosive chemicals.
This web workshop, presented by David Casavant, executive director of the Workplace Safety Awareness Council, will teach you the required new way to manage and handle virtually all potentially hazardous chemicals in your facility.
You will learn:
- New GHS Training Requirements (hint: all employees must be trained by December 1, 2013)
- Why all of your Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are no longer acceptable and how to become complaint with the new Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
- How labels must be revised to include the 6 new GHS labeling elements.
BONUS: The webcast even includes specific content you can use for your GHS employee training program, including:
- A basic PowerPoint presentation that can be used to train your staff downstream on the GHS standard as required by December 2013.
- A HAZCOM/GHS plan template as required by OSHA.
