Humantech: Company Earns EPA’s ENERGY STAR Certification for Superior Energy Efficiency
Ann Arbor, Mich. — July 8, 2015 — Humantech, experts in workplace ergonomic improvements, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR certification, which signifies that its corporate-office building in Ann Arbor performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.
“Humantech is pleased to accept EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts,” said James Good, president. “Through this certification, we have demonstrated our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship while also lowering our energy costs.”
Commercial buildings that earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Humantech improved its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to its building.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Jean Lupinacci, chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
To earn its ENERGY STAR, Humantech used the Energy Star Portfolio Manager application to log each energy meter for all energy use for all fuel types in the building each month for the past two years. The Portfolio Manager collects, summarizes, and calculates the data, and then compares the results with similar facilities across the country. To be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification, a building must earn an ENERGY STAR score of 75 or higher, indicating that it performs better than at least 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide.
Finally, certification requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) to validate the reported property use characteristics (including square footage of the building) and the energy data, and to confirm that the indoor environment criteria has been met.
