Green Ideas Garmin Corporate Campus Project Wins NAIOP LEED Certified Building of the Year Award

Phoenix — March 26, 2015 — A recent Green Ideas project, Garmin Corporate Campus Phase I, in Chandler, Ariz., has won the prestigious NAIOP LEED Certified Building of Year Award.

NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, announced the honor at its Best of 2015 Awards held at the Arizona Biltmore.

The Green Ideas team played the essential roles of sustainability strategist and LEED consultant for the project, which earned LEED Gold-level certification. Using its LEED Proven Provider status, Green Ideas guided the project through the certification process in an expedited manner and helped it achieve 99 percent energy cost savings above the LEED benchmark.

Green Ideas President Charlie Popeck said, "The Garmin project is absolutely deserving of this level of recognition. They knew what they wanted from the start and integrated many sustainable elements into the facility. It's exciting to see firsthand this commitment to green building from a major corporation like Garmin and the recognition from an organization like NAIOP."

Garmin Corporate Campus Phase I is nearly "net-zero energy" partly due to parking canopies that generate more than 607,000 kWh of renewable energy with on-site solar panels. Other state-of-the-art green building strategies that contribute to the project's energy efficiency include high-performance building envelope materials and glass, efficient lighting, and a highly reflective roofing system.

Green Ideas worked closely throughout the design and construction process with the project team, which included LGE Design-Build and Cawley Architects.
