The new South Building tower at Holy Cross Hospital on the newly named Kevin J. Sexton campus in Silver Spring, Md., has been completed.
The new seven-story patient care building addition is the hospital’s largest expansion project in more than 50 years. The 232,000-square-foot facility houses 150 private patient rooms in critical care, intermediate care and medical-surgical units.
The curved design of the South Building incorporates a special curtain wall design into the structure to assure a quiet and peaceful environment to enhance patient recovery. Other key features include a new concourse connecting the new building to the rest of the hospital and a designated space for older adults in the renovated surgery department.
The building has been designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
