Members of the U.S. Green Building Council have approved LEED core and shell for release onto the market, USGBC has announced.
The LEED Green Building Rating System for Core and Shell Development (LEED-CS) is aimed at designers, builders, developers and new building owners who address sustainable design for new core and shell construction, USGBC says.
Core and shell construction is meant to cover base building elements, such as the structure, envelope and building-level systems, such as central HVAC, etc. LEED CS is meant to recognize that there can be a division between owner and tenant for certain elements of the building between markets.
The vote comes following a two-year pilot phase. USGBC reported 92 percent of members voted in favor of the new rating system.
The core and shell rating system, complete with its accompanying reference guide and access to LEED online, will be available later this summer. To view the approved rating system click here.
