Massachusetts' Renewable Energy Trust has up to $10 million available for its Green Affordable Housing Initiative, a loosely defined program that aims to increase the use of green design and clean energy technologies in new affordable housing. The Trust is also offering about $350,000 for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in non-residential buildings that serve low-income people.
In addition, Ohio is offering $450,000 in grants to help deploy residential, commercial and industrial projects that implement renewable energy technologies; 400,000 in grants for buses that install electrification technologies at truck stops to avoid unnecessary truck idling; and $100,000 in grants for builders to install solar energy systems on model homes.
Pennsylvania is investing $20 million to provide low-interest loans to homeowners for energy-efficiency upgrades to their homes, or for installing geothermal, solar, or wind energy systems. And Wisconsin is offering $1 million to help businesses and individuals develop ways to use biomass resources to produce energy, fuels, or products.
Pennsylvania has also been busy awarding funds to clean energy projects. In January, the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority (PEDA) approved $8.5 million in grants and loans for 25 clean energy projects, including more than $6.6 million for 19 renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. The renewable energy projects run the gamut from solar power, wind power, biomass energy, and hydropower installations to solar cell research projects, a zero energy home demonstration, and a biodiesel plant.
The state also awarded $116,000 in Small Business Advantage grants to 19 business, primarily for energy efficiency upgrades, DOE announced.
