OSHA Alliance Focuses on Emergency Preparedness
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration formed alliances in the last month focusing on emergency preparedness and response in the workplace
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) formed alliances in the last month focusing on emergency preparedness and response in the workplace; fall protection, motor vehicle safety, and personal protective equipment in the sheet metal and air conditioning industries; and reducing worker fatalities and injuries in the electrical transmission and distribution industry.
The American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) joined with OSHA to educate and train workers to respond to workplace emergency situations. The alliance will focus on specific issues and projects related to emergency preparedness and response, such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) techniques, business continuity issues, and first aid information.
The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) also joined OSHA to help protect the safety and health of workers in the sheet metal and air conditioning industries. The alliance will focus on fall protection, motor vehicle safety, and personal protective equipment (emphasizing cuts, and eye injuries).
In addition, OSHA signed a major partnership with two trade associations (National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and Edison Electric Institute (EEI)) and a labor organization (the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)), as well as five electrical contractors, that will benefit hundreds of thousands of workers in the electrical transmission and distribution industry . The partnership will identify and evaluate health and safety hazards during electrical construction transmission and distribution work, with the overall objective of reducing fatalities, injuries, and illnesses in the industry.
