A Standford University Study has found that reducing greenhouse gas emissions can produce a net savings, according to a new study that is scheduled to be released today.

The study, No Reason to Wait: the Benefits of Greenhouse Gas Reduction in Sao Paulo and California, details the economic impact of policies in California and Sao Paulo, Brazil that reduced the per-capita emissions of greenhouse-gas pollution over two decades.

On Monday, top officials from the state of California and the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo are expected to present the study to international delegates attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Montreal, according to the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, which commissioned the study.

At the presentation, Secretaries of the Environment for California and Sao Paulo will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the two states to identify and implement actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The study was conducted by Stanford University scholar Walter Reid and professional staff from the Sao Paulo Department of the Environment.

Copies of the study will be available publicly on starting at 12 p.m., EST, at www.hewlett.org/publications/noreasontowait.htm as well and the State of California at www.climatechange.ca.gov.
