Like many people in the industry, facilities management found Frank Miranda, director of engineering at Turnberry Ocean Colony, found him when he was least expecting it.
Born in Cuba, Miranda emigrated to the United States when he was 23, working in the medical field. With his resilient spirit and strong work ethic, Miranda learned English and found himself in a role as a technician where he quickly fell in love with the engineering world. Soon after, he transitioned to a senior mechanical engineer role eventually moving into supervisor positions. While he continued to learn and grow, Miranda strived for success. He focused on leading his team and he accepted the position of director of engineering where he takes pride in keeping the property running smoothly without any major interruptions.
Miranda is one of eight facility professionals to be named to FacilitiesNet’s fourth annual Facility Champion award. The Champions play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of buildings across the country, all while exhibiting strong leadership and pride within the industry.
“This recognition brings me a great sense of fulfillment and pride,” Miranda says. “I have always pledged to provide outstanding service and facilities while leading by example. Being named a Facility Champion reinforces that commitment and gives me a renewed boost of energy to continue striving for excellence for years to come.”
Miranda is always looking to become a better facility champion and is willing to put in the extra work, time and effort to do so. In 2019, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from Florida International University, representing both professional growth and personal dedication.
“I find great motivation in teaching new engineers and seeing them grow as they apply the lessons I share,” Miranda says. “I want to leave my team with the mindset to always do things right the first time, to take pride in their work and to feel proud of themselves for the standards they uphold.”
Miranda’s business acumen is also an asset when seeking approvals on capital improvement and funding, even if he sees it as a challenge at times. He believes that convincing ownership groups to invest in equipment upgrades and green initiatives require both technical expertise and strong communication.
“That constant problem-solving is what motivates me even today,” Miranda says.
Miranda is a proud father and husband and is as dedicated as to being a leader at home as he is at work. He transfers his familial skills by leading with compassion and is always willing to find a way to work with his family and team to come to a solution that works for all stakeholders.
“Always lead by example,” Miranda says. “Never ask someone to do something you wouldn’t do yourself. Above all, maintain integrity and always do the right thing, even when nobody is watching.”
Miranda is the second of the eight 2025 Facility Champions who will be profiled on FacilitiesNet leading up to the webcast, “FM Innovation and Evolution: A Facility Champions Discussion” that will honor the recipients. The webcast will air on November 6 at 1 p.m. ET on FacilitiesNet. You can register to view the webcast here.
