ASHRAE Manual Addresses Green Construction

  April 20, 2021

By Dan Hounsell

Interest in green building design, construction, and operation continues to grow as maintenance and engineering managers strive to create sustainable, resilient, high-performance buildings. Now, they have a resource to support their efforts.

ASHRAE and the International Code Council have released the 2018 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) User’s Manual. The manual provides an understanding of the requirements of the code and how to meet those requirements. The publication contains sample calculations, forms to demonstrate compliance, and references to resources.

The user’s manual supports architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, and other building professionals applying the 2018 IgCC, which was developed to align the technical requirements of ANSI/ASHRAE/ICC/USGBC/IES 189.1-2017-Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low Rise Residential Buildings with the code council’s multi-stakeholder IgCC.
