Insulation Meets Managers' Demands
Part 1: What Are the Benefits of Insulation?
A Special Report Provided by the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA)
What Are the Benefits of Insulation?
By Charles C. Cottrell - April 2010 - Energy Efficiency
Mineral fiber insulation plays a critical role in plumbing, mechanical, and building-envelope systems in commercial buildings. These facilities would not be nearly as energy efficient and sustainable without the use of fiberglass, rock and slag wool insulation materials.
Besides the obvious benefit of saving energy, insulation also provides:
- burn protection by covering hot pipes and surfaces
- fire protection by increasing the fire endurance of walls, ceilings, and other building components
- condensation prevention by covering cold pipes and surfaces
- noise reduction by lining HVAC ducts and reducing the sound transmission between lining spaces, as well as from outside the building.
