Improving Safety and Security in Schools

Watch this session from the NFMT conference that took place in March 2023 in Baltimore

2022 had the most school shootings of the past 5 years. Most notably, on May 24, an attack at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left 19 students and two teachers dead.

The rise of shootings in K-12 schools, colleges and universities are prompting facility managers, district officials and communities across the United States to revisit the security arrangements for their schools and consider new practices and technology, all in an effort to protect students, faculty and staff from the threat of an active shooter entering an underprotected facility.

This panel discussion, moderated by Clarence Carson, former chief facilities officer for Chicago Public Schools, will feature facility managers and security directors from both K-12 schools and higher learning institutions and cover the strategies they are implementing to protect students and faculty.

Panelists include:

James K. Rogers, Director of Security, The Rockefeller University

Damon Gonzales, VP for Facilities Management, Davenport University
