Custom Windows by Shotten Fenster from Schotten Fenster

Green Certifications: Energy Star Qualified, Green Label / Green Label Plus, The Forest Stewardship Council

Schötten Fenster custom windows are the frames for views that inspire. The architecture may be old-world, traditional, modern or historic restoration, but the technology is always state-of-the-art.

Tilt turn windows allow for draft-free ventilation and ease of care, glazings that reduce energy usage, UV penetration, and insulate against sound and intrusion...these are among the exclusive features of Schötten Fenster windows.

Tilt turn windows

Tilt turn window operation is simple and versatile, with just a single handle. When the handle is rotated to the vertical position, the window can be tilted inward approximately 5 1/2" for draft-free ventilation while keeping out precipitation. When tilted the home maintains it's architectural integrity and appearance. When the handle is in the horizontal position, the window can be swung inward into the room for ease of cleaning and egress. The multi-point locking hardware maintains continuous contact with the weather strip to keep out harsh weather and noise.

Out-swing windows and crank-out casement windows

Casement windows are very common in North America. They swing open to the exterior, allowing superior ventilation and weather-tight performance. Ask us about our built-in retractable screen systems.

Historical restoration

Not many companies can boast they've been in business for over 170 years. Our partner in Germany is an expert in historical restoration. Bring us your designs and we'll recreate them.

Post-and-beam construction

The contemporary styling and strength of this type of window wall construction allows our clients to incorporate any of our product types, all wood, wood/aluminum or wood/bronze. With the warmth of wood indoors and the sleek streamlined look on the exterior, we can meet your design expectations.

Pivot windows

Pivot windows, due to their unique operation, create a design element that makes a statement. Ask us to share our portfolio of pivot windows.

Green manufacturing methods began in our factory long before industry standards were introduced. In fact, the concept of sustainable forestry has been around since the 1600's. Sustainability to Europeans means embracing practices to help assure that cultures harvesting timber in countries like Malaysia are sustainable too.

This includes:

  • Managing timber logging practices
  • Certifying that no illegal timber is taken
  • Harvesting is a carefully regulated operation that can be traced and audited
  • These practices ensure that timber used in a Schötten Fenster product meets or exceeds the requirements of organizations like the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

We also manage our factory representative of our forestry efforts. Scrap wood and sawdust are repurposed as briquettes for heating the factory, and rainwater is reclaimed for use within the factory. We operate our factory floor using daylight engineering and passive ventilation as well as state of the art CNC machines that allow for efficient use of wood stock. Wood cut-offs are measured by the bucket instead of by the dumpster, and fluorescent lights and equipment are turned off during breaks, leaving only computers running.

From water-based sealants and stains to natural rubber, Schötten Fenster North America is proud to represent this history with a world-class product incorporating all of the components a Green architect or builder would expect, and should demand in a 21st century product.

With ever-increasing demands for "built-green" construction products, Schötten Fenster and its manufacturer are years ahead of the conservation and sustainability curve and are well in tune to the need to safeguard our forests.

Wood is nature's best insulator. Its natural properties are hygienic, and it captures CO2 from the air and aiding in the purification of our environment. Wood is a renewable resource when harvested responsibly.

Our glazings and finishes promote energy conservation by preventing unwanted heating or cooling loss. The finishes are water-based, non-toxic and the overall product performance ratings are among the highest in the industry.
