Atlanta — For decades, large property and building owners heard the plea for better water conservation efforts while struggling to find a solution using the old technology and processes that were available. Until now.
David Taylor, senior vice president of Atlanta-based WaterSignal, recently announced that the company installed 260 systems in 2015 — a 170 percent increase over the previous year.
While sales have been strong on the company’s home turf — Georgia, Florida, and Texas — the company realized growth in states such as California, which has a 25 percent water-reduction mandate, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C. Collectively, WaterSignal has over 950 systems installed in 19 states.
“From commercial buildings to multi-family apartments to large college campuses, property and facility directors share a common frustration: high water usage and costs with little technology available to change the status quo,” Taylor said.
“From a wireless device on a water meter, our systems read water flow in real-time and send the data to an easy-to-use dashboard for the facility manager to measure, compare against other buildings, and even analyze use down to the hour. As a result, we are proven to save managers approximately 14 percent. With water rates rising, our system essentially pays for itself in six to eight months.”
In addition to real-time data, the WaterSignal system features instant alerts in the event of a major leak, much like an energy surge popping a circuit breaker. The alert can be sent to both a computer and smartphone, and can be customized for business hours as well as after hours and weekends.
