Otis Gen2 Elevator Sales Hit Half Million

10/17/2016

Otis recently sold its 500,000th Gen2 elevator, a testament to the revolutionary product’s innovative design and tangible benefits. The Gen2 elevator redefined the elevator industry with breakthrough technology that replaced conventional ropes with flat belts, leading to a more comfortable ride, greater reliability, more efficient operation and increased energy efficiency compared to conventional roped elevators. Since its introduction, the Gen2 elevator has become one of the company’s best-selling elevators in its 163-year history, with 250,000 units sold by 2012, and this year reached a total of a half-million units sold. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The 500,000th Gen2 elevator will be manufactured in Gien, France for installation in a project of M W G - Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG Magdeburg in Germany.

“We selected Gen2 elevators because they offer the best technology with proven benefits,” said Axel Herrmann, board member of Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG Magdeburg.

“This is a remarkable achievement and we thank our employees and suppliers for that performance and our customers for their confidence in Otis and the Gen2 elevator,” Otis President Philippe Delpech said recently at a New Gen2 elevator launch event in Berlin. “Since its market introduction, Otis has installed Gen2 elevators in more than 180 countries and territories around the world. The outstanding technology behind the Gen2 elevator provides the foundation for Otis to continue to innovate as we design and build the elevator of the future.”

Environmentally sustainable

Thanks to its flexible belts, the Gen2 machine with a ReGen™ drive is smaller and capable of reducing overall elevator energy consumption by 75 percent under normal operation compared to conventional geared machines with non-regenerative drives, enabling developers and owners to manage their buildings more economically. In addition, its permanently sealed bearings don’t require any additional lubrication.

Smooth, quiet performance

The Gen2 elevator’s unique, patented flat-belt drive technology significantly reduces vibration, providing passengers and tenants a remarkably smooth, quiet ride and improved overall comfort compared to conventional systems.

            Rapid Installation

With integrated components and proven work practices, Otis has streamlined the installation process, so builders benefit from a more controlled installation.

Connected Gen2 Elevator

In 2016, Otis launched the New Gen2 elevator, its next-generation, connected elevator that is based on reliable Gen2 technology and adds greater connectivity and a more user-friendly experience for passengers. The New Gen2 elevator is initially available in Europe.

With the eCall™ mobile application developed exclusively by Otis, residents or visitors to buildings can call and direct the elevator at a distance with their smartphones.

For users who haven’t downloaded the eCall app, the OneCall™ dashboard on the elevator landing provides intuitive floor selection from outside the elevator.

The eView™ screen inside the cabin enriches the ride with real-time information that can be customized in every building. For the first time as a standard option, Otis is offering building managers the opportunity to provide customized information directly to passengers, including building updates and activities, weather reports, traffic information and recorded playlists.

In addition to increased connectivity, the New Gen2 elevator also features enhanced aesthetic options, providing more than 400,000 possible combinations of textures, colors, lighting and materials to fit any architectural style.
