DENVER –- Coolerado, manufacturer of the world’s most energy efficient air conditioners, announces revolutionary customer cost savings at both Green House Data and the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). Located on the University of Colorado campus, the NSIDC cut overall data center power consumption by 70% utilizing Coolerado air conditioners this last year. Also impressive is that NSIDC reduced building-wide power consumption by 25% even though their data center encompasses only 1600 of its 77,000 square foot building. Green House Data, located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, has been able to achieve 40% more efficiency than traditional data centers while achieving 100% uptime, a major concern for the industry.
Significant customer ROI can be directly attributed to Coolerado’s indirect evaporative cooling technology. Instead of using chemical refrigerants and compressors to cool recycled interior air, Coolerado uses a new, patented process that runs fresh outside air through air filters and then a heat mass exchanger (HMX). This unique process delivers more comfortable, breathable air using one-tenth of the energy of typical air conditioners. “It is Coolerado’s goal to assist data centers in dramatic PUE reductions with short payback periods.” stated Coolerado CEO Tom Teynor. “Innovative customers like the NSIDC and Green House Data not only impact their bottom lines choosing our products, but also make the world a more green and sustainable planet choosing our chemical-free solutions; that’s something to be proud of.”
At Green House Data, selecting high-performance, efficient solutions are core to our business model,” said Green House Data President Shawn Mills. “Coolerado air conditioners fit perfectly into our infrastructure, and as our business has grown, we’ve been able to meet increased demand intelligently by building on our existing Coolerado installs. The modular unit design and the high ROI give us the flexibility to grow sustainably.”
“Power usage stats at the NSIDC before and after installing Coolerado are simply staggering,” commented NSIDC Technical Services Manager David Gallaher. “We have seen a 70% reduction in data center power usage or 491,000 kilowatt hours by utilizing Coolerado solutions in the last 12 months, a stat that is further amplified by the growing density and energy usage across our entire campus; as we grow larger, we still save more.”
