Providing Adequate Service to the Fire Safety System During Retrofits

Today’s tip deals with providing proper service while retrofitting the fire safety system.
In commercial high-rise buildings and other large complex facilities, retrofitting the fire safety system is no quick task. The average commercial high-rise fire safety system takes four years to retrofit. Since these projects are so time consuming and costly facility executives might be tempted to save money by releasing their current service contractor from the annual service agreement once construction begins and rely on the new contractor to pick up the maintenance. Sometimes the new contractor can provide that service, but they might be short on the necessary resources, especially if the old system is different from the new one going in. With a crucial system like the fire safety system, during a retrofit it’s a better idea to have two fire system contractors – one to take care of the existing system until it is taken offline and another to install the new system. This will ensure neither system is underserved.
