Hospital Plant Operations Manager: 'Teaching Most Rewarding Part of the Job'test

By Dave Lubach, Associate Editor

January 2017

Joe Amico’s title reads “Manager of Plant Operations.” His job description also might include the duties of a classroom teacher.

“Providing support to staff and patients is awesome, but I continue to enjoy teaching,” he says. “It’s the most rewarding part of the job — learning new information and passing it on.”

Amico joined the Parkland Medical Center staff in 2012 as manager of plant operations. His career in the maintenance and engineering field started while serving in the Navy more than 25 years ago as the lead staff mechanical instructor and supervisor at a power plant in Connecticut. It was a work experience he continues to benefit from.

“Many of the maintenance and engineering practices learned there I continue to practice today,” he says.
